Your opportunity to shine

Many students choose to work towards music exams. They do so for different reasons, including having a goal to work towards, gaining a formal qualification, or just because they enjoy the journey.

Exams are certainly not a requirement of learning any musical instrument, but we do offer a range of music exams to suit a variety of tastes including:

ABRSM/Trinity - traditional music exams including classical pieces which may also include scales, sight reading and listening tests

Jazz (ABRSM) - includes the opportunity of learn jazz standards with some emphasis on improvisation

Trinity Rock & Pop - learning to play the actual instrumental lines from well-known tunes along with a backing track

Music Teacher’s Board - all online, with huge flexibility about what pieces you can play

These days published exam pieces books are full of inspiring choices which appeal to many different interests and they may also be used as a basis for your lessons, with or without the necessity to sit an exam.

We let students know when we think they would be ready to prepare for an exam and we actively encourage students who wish to do so. We equalky support students throughout their progress who would prefer to learn without exams. And you can always jump in at a higher grade later if you choose not to take an exam at the moment.
